Republican National Convention Day 2 = Day 1

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

The Republication National Convention really got started today, I just finished listening watching Laura Bush praise her husband and our President; watching our President, George Bush, speak by satellite; watched a moving tribute to Ronald Reagan; listened as Thompson gave a great speech highlighting events in John McCain’s life, including his POW experience with details I had not heard before…also did a few comparisons between the two candidates, and finally, there was a speech by Joe Leiberman who stated he was speaking as a Democrat for a Republican.  I get a little confused, as I thought he was an Independent, must be one of those political twists I just don’t understand, but the speech was well done, very well done.

Like the first nights of the Democratic convention, I enjoyed it, but was not swept off my feet by anything.  I wasn’t any more convinced than I already am to vote for my party.

Tomorrow night we have our Vice Presidential Candidate who has been tossed around in the media all day today speaking, it should be an interesting night!

More tomorrow!

Health Care, Medicare, Medicaid, Retirement

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Health care is a huge topic in the election this year, and a big issue in our own home as my husband is a diabetic who takes several medications, and will for the rest of his life most likely.  I am still getting used to the difference between Medicare and Medicaid, let alone knowing whether we are eligible for Medicare D coverage. I understand that actually we are not, because my husband is not yet retired…but have to research that more.  Still, it isn’t a bad idea to begin to understand these things now, as the future will be the present before we know it.

I understand now that a Medicare Part D benefit is the coverage you may be able to get to cover your medications. If you have recently retired, are looking ahead to retirement, are moving, or have a family member that may be going into a nursing home who needs your help understanding Medicare, then a website I visited called “My Part D USA” may help you to understand what Medicare D is all about. I found this site to be very helpful.

Now, I’ve listened to the Democratic National Convention, it’s time to listen to the Republican National Convention, and when you vote, be sure to know where your candidate of choice stands on the important issue of health care.
