Guns, God and Hank Williams

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Today I saw an ad on TV done by Hank Williams mentioning how Americans like him love their God, and their guns, but not in the violent sense of the word. He referred to the gun that was handed down to him by his grandfather, much like my husband had a 30/40 Craig Cavalry rifle handed down to him by his father a couple of years back.

I’ll be danged (as hubby would say) if I can find that ad now to post for you, but I do want you to stop on over and visit Hank Williams official website, where he has some info about his support of McCain and Palin…as many know he’s been traveling and singing with the Palin team lately. At his site provides a link to something I’d never heard of before, Sportsmen for McCain.

Now if you’ve read my posts before on guns and hunting, you’ll know I have a love/hate relationship with the whole thing.  I get a little uncomfortable when hubby takes his gun out of the case to admire it even though he tells me that it’s not loaded and the bullets are hidden in another room far from the gun.  And I hate coming up behind a car with a deer carcass tied on the back.  But bring me some prepared venison, and my mouth waters thinking of the recipes I can make from it.  So I guess you could say I’m just a bit conflicted.

Here’s Hank William’s video about his gun & Obama wanting to take away his freedom to keep this inherited treasure…is he right? Is that what Obama has said? Let me know if he’s wrong, but knowing Hank, who says it like it is and nothing more from what I’ve seen of his interviews lately, I’d say he is.

Debate #3 - Joe the Plumber Won the Night…

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

…and why I can’t vote for Barack Obama.

“Joe the plumber” has been made famous by asking Barack Obama a pointed question about how part of his economic plan would, or wouldn’t, help his business, a question that inspired lively discussion between the candidates at the debate tonight.  Way to go, Joe, maybe now that people know who you are, your financial future will be a little brighter.

I’ve been listening to the “who do you think won the debate” discussion for about 45 minutes now, and of course the responses depend upon who the person has been supporting all along.

Personally, I felt Barack was smooth as always, and I really appreciated McCain’s quick and good responses, most of which I agreed with.

For me, among other much smaller things, who I vote for keeps coming back to one haunting thought…the anti-American philosophies that Barack Obama listened to for many, many years under the ministry of Jeremiah Wright.  Now don’t click away yet…think about it.

It frustrates me that Barack can get away with cutting ties with Wright ONLY AFTER it becomes an issue in the press….yes this is old news, but haunting me even to this day. I am not nearly as concerned about the economy as I am about a man who may have some confused ideas in his brain after listening to his preacher teach for 20 years….don’t be fooled by smooth talk, it’s not enough to base your decision on who to vote in as President.

Last night I watched Frontline, and they did a profile on both candidates….in it they played footage of a much younger Jeremiah Wright, from the time Obama first started attending the church, and he was as off in his teaching then as he is now…and Obama just gets away with saying that he has cut off ties with him…doesn’t that bother you?  I am not saying that if he keeps filling his mind with what is good for as many years as he has filled it with Wright’s garbage that he might not be a good candidate one day, it’s just too soon now.

So there you have it, it’s not the economy, but his record and his ties to frightening people in his past that he artfully brushes over whenever they are brought up that make Barack Obama the WRONG man to be President of our great Nation, at least for now.

In case you need a refresher, here is what Obama listened to for years, and a couple other interesting clips you may have never seen before, watch them all, please!

Whatever Happened to RESPECT?

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

I know I’m supposed to be writing about the debates, the polls, the negative advertising, what I think about Barack Obama -v- John McCain, but today I just have to comment about something I’m passionate about, and that is RESPECT!

I don’t appreciate negative advertising, from either side, but that seems to be the way it is in the game of politics.  But what appals me even more is the new movie that is out that claims to be a biography (lying is “in” too!) about our President, called “W”.  How sick can you get?  Not only does it mock a man that should be respected, but it mocks the God that many of us worship and serve.  I’m angry, mad, disgusted!

As if that isn’t enough we have to have a movie out that’s only purpose is to put down Christianity.

Have you ever heard of the “Antichrist”?  It/he was prophesied in the Bible as being a big part of the “end times”, the last days before Jesus Christ is to return to earch, yes, the same Christ that is being mocked today.   If the things we are seeing today aren’t “antichrist”, I don’t know what is.

We should be ashamed of ourselves as people and Nation for letting things like this go on. No matter WHO becomes leader of our Nation, whether it be John McCain, or Barack Obama, they will receive my respect, and I will be praying for them.

Saddleback Church Tonight - Winner, John McCain

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

We had a wedding today, and I just got home and listened to the full two hours of the Saddleback Civil Forum (not a debate) lead by Pastor Rick Warren. Both Barack Obama and John McCain are good men, I like both of them very much as people, but I must say that John McCain won the night hands down. There were no vague answers, they were very concise, knew exactly what he believed and there were no hesitations in his answers. His experience was clear in his answers, I was literally moved by some of his answers. I’m sure there will be much discussion and analyzing of this in the days to come…but I’m going to hold onto the memory of this night tightly, and not let spin sway me…truth, yes, but not spin. I could say more, but it’s midnight and I need my “beauty sleep” so I can get up for our wonderful early church service in the morning. Sunday is the Lord’s Day in our home, so may I wish you a blessed Lord’s Day!

Obama & McCain Face Off, But Not Face to Face

Friday, August 15th, 2008

I am really looking forward to seeing the event taking place at Saddleback Church in California. Rick Warren, pastor and popular author of “The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For?” will be meeting with both Barack Obama, and John McCain. This is not a debate, the candidates will greet one another, but questioning will be done separately, with the other party out of the room so that their responses will be there own and not affected by hearing what their opponent has said.

We have a wedding to go to tomorrow, but TIVO is set and ready to go, 8/16/08, 8 pm EST on FOX News Channel…sure to be an interesting event!

Not Again! How Could He Do It?

Friday, August 8th, 2008

I’m sitting here listening to the news before I go make our dinner, and just can’t believe that once again we have a heart breaking sex scandal in politics. These things always repulse me, not because I’m perfect, but because I know better. I think we all do.

But what’s particularly ugly about the former Democratic candidate for the presidential election, John Edwards, cheating on his wife, and lying about it repeatedly, (where has that happened before…hmmm, let me think) is the fact that his beautiful wife, Elizabeth, is so ill. Oh yeh, that’s right, she was in remission, I guess that makes it okay?? Ugh, I’m confused, as a woman, this downright repulses me. I get so upset, that I don’t even want to look at a man…and my hubby will be home in a little over an hour, so I better get over it.

This is fairly new news to me, perhaps it is old news to Elizabeth and everyone else, I’m looking forward to hearing what she has to say, as yet again, a woman stands beside her cheating man.

After I calm down, I’m going to say a prayer for them. Jonathan Edwards is being punished with world-wide embarrassment…but God can forgive a TRULY repentant heart of something even as ugly as this. His wife must be devastated, may God wrap His arms around her at this time. And the children, oh the children!! Those children that the Democrats are so famous saying they care most about. I know, I’m starting to get nasty. And yes, I know any person or party is capable of this. I better stop, I just don’t know what else to say.

An Inspirational Map Story

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

My husband loves maps, so I’m sure that when he saw “map” mentioned in the subject line of an email, he immediately opened the email. Then after he read it, he shared it with me. Perhaps it’s one of those little stories that make the rounds by email, but it seemed appropriate to share this blessed Sunday, enjoy it again if you’ve read it already.

A father wanted to read a magazine but was being bothered by his little girl, Shelby. She wanted to know what the United States looked like, he tore a sheet out of his new magazine on which was printed the map of the country. Tearing it into small pieces, he gave it to Shelby , and said, “Go into the other room and see if you can put this together. This will show you our whole country today.”

After a few minutes, Shelby returned and handed him the map, correctly fitted and taped together. The father was surprised and asked how she had finished so quickly. “Oh,” she said, “on the other side of the paper is a picture of Jesus. When I got Jesus back where He belonged, then our country just came together.”
