John Edwards - Trust Him or the Spin?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

It’s been about a week since John Edwards made it big in the news due to scandal that all of us have been hearing and reading bits and pieces of ever since. I have to admit that I’ve been a bit caught up in it myself. There was the interview on ABC last week, and then things have deteriorated during the week. I don’t know if we can totally trust any person completely, but I chose to believe that John Edwards is committed to his wife, I believe he failed in a most repulsive way, but so did a King named David in the Bible in a big way…and though God forgave him and even called him “a man after His own heart” when all was said and done, David suffered many consequences for his sin, and so is John Edwards…and his dear wife…every time another statement is made in the news. Forgiveness is a gift of God, and in a strange way, so are the consequences we experience for our failings, they forever remind us to finish the rest of the race strong…not always as happily as we could have, but forgiven.

Here’s the videos of the interview in case you missed it:

Not Again! How Could He Do It?

Friday, August 8th, 2008

I’m sitting here listening to the news before I go make our dinner, and just can’t believe that once again we have a heart breaking sex scandal in politics. These things always repulse me, not because I’m perfect, but because I know better. I think we all do.

But what’s particularly ugly about the former Democratic candidate for the presidential election, John Edwards, cheating on his wife, and lying about it repeatedly, (where has that happened before…hmmm, let me think) is the fact that his beautiful wife, Elizabeth, is so ill. Oh yeh, that’s right, she was in remission, I guess that makes it okay?? Ugh, I’m confused, as a woman, this downright repulses me. I get so upset, that I don’t even want to look at a man…and my hubby will be home in a little over an hour, so I better get over it.

This is fairly new news to me, perhaps it is old news to Elizabeth and everyone else, I’m looking forward to hearing what she has to say, as yet again, a woman stands beside her cheating man.

After I calm down, I’m going to say a prayer for them. Jonathan Edwards is being punished with world-wide embarrassment…but God can forgive a TRULY repentant heart of something even as ugly as this. His wife must be devastated, may God wrap His arms around her at this time. And the children, oh the children!! Those children that the Democrats are so famous saying they care most about. I know, I’m starting to get nasty. And yes, I know any person or party is capable of this. I better stop, I just don’t know what else to say.

Where I Stand: Abortion

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Yes, I know the Pennsylvania primary is upon us, and so do you, and if you are anything like me, you’re on PA Primary overload, so here’s another “Where I Stand” for you, and we’ll talk about the primary when the primary gets here.About 20 years ago when my children were very young, I volunteered for a group that helped people who had unplanned pregnancies. A free pregnancy test was offered, and counseling. Often when the young women would arrive, they thought we may be offering abortions, but that wasn’t the case. I met with many young ladies, delivered food to some needy pregnant woman, and offered as many options as were available at the time in order to encourage these dear woman to preserve the life within them. In many cases, I have no idea what the outcome was, as they were left armed with choices, but ultimately, what they did was up to them.

I remember clearly sitting in my living room (usually we met in an office, but sometimes if someone was close, at that time it was okay to meet in my home) with one young lady. She knew she was pregnant, and hadn’t told her parents yet. She wanted to know what “help” I had to offer, so I told her all of the options available to her…none of which included abortion. She broke down in tears, feeling guilt and shame at what she had done, and told me she was 100% sure that when her parents found out, they would make her have an abortion. I re-assured her that God loved her, and that God loved the life that was in her, to always remember that God forgives us when we ask and wanted to walk through all of this with her. I sent her home with the usual literature, and some verses from the Bible that I hoped would help and comfort her, and no, I don’t know the outcome, but God does.

These were eye-opening experiences for me, and heart-wrenching in many cases, as I do believe that abortion is murder. I hate to see a world so messed up that sex is worshiped and one of the many ugly outcomes is that a beautiful life, full of potential, comes into existence, then is unwanted and destroyed.

So what does this have to do with politics? It is an issue in every election, and I believe it should be. Some say this should be a matter of personal choice, private, but when the Supreme Court who’s Justices are appointed by the President of the United States made a decision to legalize abortion through Roe -v- Wade, it became a government issue to the highest level.

I’m sure by now it’s very clear where I stand, and believing the Bible and obeying God makes life choices so easy, you know exactly what to do, consider these words from Psalm 139:

“For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful… your eyes saw my unformed body, all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Can it get any clearer than that? Even the unformed body is a life, and precious to the Creator, God.

If you DO NOT have God and the Bible in your life as a guiding compass, then you follow human guidelines, man-made ideas, which have lead us to the sad state of affairs that we find ourselves in…killing thousands each year. This explains why the Pro-Life issue is so important to Bible believing Christians, they call us the “religious right” now. I prefer to say that I have a “relationship” with God that is “right”.

So there you have it, that’s where I stand on the issue of Abortion. How about you?

Sex, Politics and Apologies To Late

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Today it was Democratic New York Governor Eliot Spitzers’s turn to stand at the mike and proclaim to the world that he was sorry, and had to regain the trust of his wife and family after…details yet to come…but something to do with messing around with a “high end” prostitute; in the summer of 2004 it was our Democratic NJ Governor James McGreevey who stood next to his wife and proclaimed to the world that he was a “gay American man” and something along the lines of being sorry for hurting his wife; then there is our previous Democratic President, Bill Clinton, who said “I did NOT have sex with that woman”, when he really did…as we heard with no detail spared during the weeks and months to come.  Oh, did I say Democratic to many times? Oopsie, I’m sure there are Republicans that have failed, too, I just can’t think of any names now…maybe you can help me with that in a comment if you wish…if YOU can think of any.

Anyway, as a woman, I’m angry and totally disgusted, and feel sorry for the wives and children of these “men”…I can’t imagine what it must be like to be in their shoes, and hope I never will have to. I would like to feel sorry for these men, too, because they have REALLY lost their way, but I haven’t quite arrived at that point yet.

So now are we looking ahead to news reports riddled with graphic sexual content and details?  Is the media going to use sex to sell?  I hope it won’t go on too long, and do pray for those hurting right now because of this.
