Guns, God and Hank Williams

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Today I saw an ad on TV done by Hank Williams mentioning how Americans like him love their God, and their guns, but not in the violent sense of the word. He referred to the gun that was handed down to him by his grandfather, much like my husband had a 30/40 Craig Cavalry rifle handed down to him by his father a couple of years back.

I’ll be danged (as hubby would say) if I can find that ad now to post for you, but I do want you to stop on over and visit Hank Williams official website, where he has some info about his support of McCain and Palin…as many know he’s been traveling and singing with the Palin team lately. At his site provides a link to something I’d never heard of before, Sportsmen for McCain.

Now if you’ve read my posts before on guns and hunting, you’ll know I have a love/hate relationship with the whole thing.  I get a little uncomfortable when hubby takes his gun out of the case to admire it even though he tells me that it’s not loaded and the bullets are hidden in another room far from the gun.  And I hate coming up behind a car with a deer carcass tied on the back.  But bring me some prepared venison, and my mouth waters thinking of the recipes I can make from it.  So I guess you could say I’m just a bit conflicted.

Here’s Hank William’s video about his gun & Obama wanting to take away his freedom to keep this inherited treasure…is he right? Is that what Obama has said? Let me know if he’s wrong, but knowing Hank, who says it like it is and nothing more from what I’ve seen of his interviews lately, I’d say he is.

Sometimes You Just Have to Laugh

The debate is over, I thought McCain did better this round, but don’t know whether he’s made much of a dent in the polls yet. I’m still stuck on the VP debate, and though I don’t watch Saturday Night Live, had heard about the routine they did on the Vice Presidential Debate, tracked it down online, and couldn’t resist posting it…except for a couple spots that crossed the line (at least my line) I thought this was hysterical…and so is Joe Biden’s reaction in the video that follows it, enjoy!

Sarah Palin shares her “Job Description”

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

I was listening to Sarah Palin on TV today during McCain and Palin’s visit to Ohio..oops, I mean Iowa.  In it she shared that John McCain had been talking with her about some of the responsibilities that she would have as Vice President.  I’m sure there will be more things revealed over time, but here is what she shared today (nice to hear some specifics, by the way!)

  • Help lead the mission of energy security.  She shared how the cost of energy is affecting many aspects of our economy from the price of food, living (up)  and paycheck (down).   Her experience in Alaska will help in the area of providing energy within our borders.  It is now a matter of National Security, we need American resources provided by American ingenuity and produced by American workers!
  • Reforming Government - making government more transparent, more accountable, more acceptable for those who want to  serve.  Will recruit the best people to run agencies, regardless of party affiliation or Washington experience. As Alaska’s governor she put Alaska’s checkbook online so people could see where money was going, will bring that kind of transparency to Washington.
  • Funding for students with Special Needs - she shares that this is an issue that touches her heart, starting 13 years ago with the birth of a nephew with autism, and then of course the birth of her own precious special needs child in April, their son, Trig.  (Personally, as a sister to a special needs brother who is now in his 40’s, I am especially attuned to this need, after spending several years researching what was out there, and learning what was needed to make sure that my dear brother was placed in the best group home setting available where we live…and he was this past June.)  She is going to make sure that government is working on behalf of special needs families.

These are just a few things she shared, I look forward to more of this, actual things that are going to be done, from all of the candidates.

Sarah Palin, Alaska’s Hockey Mom, Hits it Out of the Park!

Wow, what a speech!  I am speechless!  I am in awe.  Literally, I don’t know what to say.  I will be back to add Sarah’s speech in case you missed it, and to give credit to the person who gets speeches up on YouTube faster than anyone I know.

Sarah spoke clearly, with poise, never cowering under all the attacks she has received in the press, and clearly showed her experience and that she is the right person to stand beside John McCain when THEY BECOME President and Vice President of the United States.

History has been made again this week as Sarah Palin is the first female Republican Vice President to ever be nominated.

Wonderful, brilliant evening…and Fox News, I did watch it on your station, your still my favorite in spite of my earlier post.

Sarah Palin, Thumbs Up from This Republican

Friday, August 29th, 2008

On her wedding anniversary, and on McCain’s birthday, and the week we celebrate the anniversary of woman winning the right to vote, a woman, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska is declared the Republican Vice Presidential candidate.  The speech she gave clearly showed her strength.

We have a lot to get to know about this woman, but we also know quite a bit. She has a son headed for Iraq who joined the military on September 11th…is it too much to ask that the hurricane headed for the gulf coast might push the Republican Convention up a week so it’s on the 9/11 anniversary? Maybe…I’d rather our friends in the south be safe! But I digress, Sarah gave birth to a child with Down’s Syndrome, as a sister to a brother who is disabled, this means something to me in a way it wouldn’t unless you’ve “been there”. In between these two children she has 3 other wonderful children and a husband who is a wonderful “regular” guy. How American can you get? No fireworks, no celebrities, just down home America in Ohio today, and quite a crowd, too!  Way to go, McCain!  I am finally excited about voting for my party again…not that I wasn’t going to, this has just added a whole new energy to the ticket. I hope nothing happens to upset that.

I was looking for a video of her speech, and will add it when I find it, but in the meantime, I found a few others that I’ll post for now.
